Central Takes Aim at Unbeaten Booneville; Regional Races Await
October 18, 2026 • Varsity outlook following Saturday, October 17. All times Central.
Alcorn Central carries a 2-0 region record into Friday’s trip to unbeaten Booneville, putting the Golden Bears’ perfect start in league play against a Blue Devils team that has reached 7-0.
The October 23 football game kicks off at 7 p.m. in Booneville. Central is 5-3 overall after its four-game winning streak ended against Mooreville on October 16, but that nonregion loss left its league record intact. The Golden Bears’ schedule then brings Kossuth to Glen on October 29.
Biggersville opens the county’s football week a night earlier, visiting Smithville at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 22. The Lions are 2-6 and looking for their first region victory. Friday’s other games also start at 7: Corinth, 5-2 overall and 3-0 in its region, travels to Amory; Kossuth, 4-3 and 1-1, hosts Mantachie.
Before Friday’s kickoffs, all four schools’ boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams have Thursday regional races in New Albany. The host’s schedule puts Corinth, Alcorn Central and Kossuth girls on the starting line at 10 a.m., followed by their boys at 10:30. Biggersville’s girls race at 11 and its boys at 11:30. BNA Park’s soccer/tennis complex and Tallahatchie Trails host the meet; results will be separated by region.
Golf reaches its state-championship stretch first. Corinth’s calendar lists girls’ state play Monday and Tuesday, October 19-20, while Kossuth’s lists an October 19 start. The MHSAA’s Class II girls’ site is Dancing Rabbit in Choctaw.
For the boys, Corinth and Alcorn Central list October 26-27 state dates; Kossuth lists an October 26 start. The Class 4A boys’ site is Dancing Rabbit, and Class 3A plays at Briarwood Golf Club in Meridian.
Volleyball’s local postseason is complete: Kossuth finished as Class 3A runner-up Friday, and Corinth, Central and Biggersville exited earlier.
Schedule note: No October 17 varsity result was verified; missing reports do not establish that no events occurred. Golf championship calendar entries do not confirm qualification, and tee times remain unavailable. The next confirmed outings for Alcorn Central girls’ golf and Biggersville boys’ and girls’ golf were unavailable.
