Central Gets Third Shot at Kossuth With Semifinal Berth at Stake
Alcorn Central has another chance to solve Kossuth, and this time a place in the Class 3A volleyball semifinals rides on the answer. The county opponents meet Thursday, October 8, at Kossuth High School, with the updated MHSAA bracket listing a 5:30 p.m. start. All times here are Central.
Kossuth, 28–4 overall and unbeaten in eight district matches, swept both September meetings with Central. The Aggies bring 20 consecutive wins into the quarterfinal; the Lady Bears, 12–19, have swept their first two playoff opponents. Thursday’s winner advances to face Belmont or Booneville on October 12. Kossuth’s ticket listing confirms the home venue.
Football shares Thursday’s schedule. Corinth visits North Pontotoc at 7 p.m. October 8. The Warriors are 3–2 after opening district play with a 62–0 victory over South Pontotoc; North Pontotoc is 2–4.
Friday brings two more games at 7 p.m. Alcorn Central hosts Mantachie on October 9 in a meeting of 4–2 teams, with the Bears seeking a fourth straight victory. Biggersville, 1–5, travels to 3–3 Walnut that night. Kossuth’s next listed football game is October 16 at Belmont, also at 7 p.m.; the Aggies are 3–3.
Next week takes Central’s and Kossuth’s boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams to the Hardin County–Horse Creek Invitational in Savannah, Tennessee. The October 13 meet at Horse Creek Wildlife and Animal Sanctuary starts its varsity boys at 4:30 p.m., followed by the girls at approximately 5 p.m., under the host’s revised timetable.
Corinth’s and Biggersville’s next listed varsity races are the October 22 regional meet at BNA Park and Tallahatchie Trails in New Albany. Corinth’s girls run at 10 a.m. and boys at 10:30; Biggersville’s girls follow at 11 and boys at 11:30.
Golf’s next confirmed regional dates put Central’s boys at Hillandale on October 12 and girls there October 13. Corinth’s girls have regionals October 13; its calendar next lists boys’ state golf October 26–27, though qualification following the October 6 regional has not been verified. Kossuth lists a division golf event October 12. Corinth and Biggersville volleyball have no further fixtures listed after their playoff exits.
Schedule note: Kossuth’s calendar still gives volleyball a 6 p.m. start; confirm before traveling. Golf tee times, Corinth’s regional venue, separate Kossuth boys’ and girls’ details, and Biggersville’s next boys’ and girls’ golf events remain unavailable. No October 7 varsity outcomes were verified across the four schools; missing reports do not establish that no events were played.
