Kyle’s 10 Aces Send Central Into Kossuth Playoff Rematch

Caitlee Kyle served 10 aces as Alcorn Central swept Winona on Tuesday, October 6, earning a Class 3A volleyball quarterfinal against a Kossuth team that has won 20 consecutive matches.

The Golden Bears won 25–18, 25–15, 25–12 at Winona, improving to 12–19. Kyle, a senior setter, also supplied 11 assists. Central recorded 24 aces and 31 kills, with contributions extending well beyond its leading server.

Audrey Farr finished with nine kills on 15 attempts and only one error. Willow Henry and Hadley Butler added seven kills apiece; Butler also collected seven digs. Autumn Duckworth led Central with eight digs, while Lola Hollis distributed nine assists and Ashton Marlar added eight assists and four aces. Winona fell to 6–22.

Kossuth also swept its second-round opponent, beating visiting Nettleton 25–9, 25–13, 25–12. The Lady Aggies allowed just 34 points across the three sets and improved to 28–4. Nettleton dropped to 12–17.

Thursday’s October 8 quarterfinal will be the county teams’ third meeting this season. Kossuth won both September matches 3–0, so Central must reverse that pattern to keep its postseason alive. The Class 3A bracket sends the winner to an October 12 semifinal against Belmont or Booneville.

Corinth’s playoff run ended Tuesday with a 3–0 loss to Mooreville in Class 4A’s second round. The Lady Warriors had advanced by sweeping Senatobia on Saturday. Corinth’s reported record stands at 6–17; Mooreville moved to 20–6 and a quarterfinal against Tishomingo County.

Biggersville’s next listed varsity football game is at Walnut on Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m. Central Time. The Lions enter 1–5 against a 3–3 Walnut team. That evening, Alcorn Central hosts Mantachie at 7 p.m., with both teams 4–2.

Results note: Corinth’s school calendar listed boys’ golf regionals Tuesday, but a score or placement was not available. No additional Tuesday varsity results were verified across the four schools; incomplete golf and cross-country reporting does not establish that no events were held. The Central–Kossuth match’s venue and start time remain unconfirmed.
