Booneville Rematch Tests Kossuth’s 17-Match Streak
Kossuth’s girls volleyball team puts a 17-match winning streak on the line Thursday, October 1, when Booneville visits for a varsity match listed at 6 p.m. The Lady Aggies enter 25-4 overall and 7-0 in Class 3A Region 1; Booneville brings a 22-11 record.
The first district meeting was decisive: Kossuth won 3-0 at Booneville on September 8. Thursday’s rematch gives the Lady Aggies a chance to reach 8-0 in district play before the postseason.
Two other county volleyball teams travel Thursday at 6 p.m.: Alcorn Central (10-18) visits Lake Cormorant, while Biggersville (4-23) goes to Falkner. Corinth (5-16) next faces Senatobia (14-6) in a Class 4A playoff match listed for Saturday, October 3, at 2 p.m., with a neutral-site designation.
Booneville returns to Kossuth on Friday, October 2, for football. The Aggies (3-2), winners of three straight, open district play against the unbeaten Blue Devils (4-0). All four county kickoffs are listed at 7 p.m.: Alcorn Central (3-2) opens its district schedule at Belmont, Corinth (2-2) hosts South Pontotoc in a district opener, and Biggersville (1-4) hosts Baldwyn.
Friday’s cross-country schedule brings Alcorn Central, Biggersville and Kossuth together at the Pontotoc Invitational, held at Cherry Creek Orchard in Pontotoc. Entries include boys and girls from all three schools. Their Class 1A-3A varsity 5-kilometer races start with the girls at 11:20 a.m. and the boys at noon on October 2.
Corinth’s boys and girls cross-country teams head to the Gatorade XC Classic on October 3 at Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Alabama. Both are entered in the Bronze varsity races: girls at 8:30 a.m., boys at 10:10 a.m.
Golf’s next listings extend into regional competition. Corinth’s calendar includes the MSU Invitational on October 1, followed by boys regionals October 6 and girls regionals October 13. Alcorn Central lists boys regionals October 12 and girls regionals October 13, both at Hillandale. Kossuth lists division golf October 12.
Schedule note: All times are Central. No September 30 varsity result was verified; Kossuth’s scheduled 18-hole outing at Shiloh remains unreported. Kossuth’s calendar lists Thursday volleyball at 5 p.m. and Pontotoc cross country October 3; the varsity schedule and meet host list 6 p.m. and October 2, respectively. Corinth’s playoff venue is unconfirmed.
