Kossuth Sweeps Region Slate, Runs Win Streak to 18
Kossuth left no unfinished business in Class 3A Region 1 volleyball Thursday, October 1. The Aggies swept visiting Booneville 25–12, 25–19, 25–9 to finish their region schedule 8–0, winning all eight matches in straight sets and extending their overall winning streak to 18.
The 3–0 victory lifted Kossuth to 26–4. Booneville, which also lost the September 8 meeting in three sets, fell to 22–12. Thursday’s second set was the closest, but the Blue Devils managed just nine points in the third. Kossuth has not lost a match since August 20.
Alcorn Central drew closer in each set at Lake Cormorant but could not extend the match, falling 25–16, 25–21, 25–22. Central slipped to 10–19; Lake Cormorant improved to 16–20. Kinsley Stevens supplied eight kills and 16 digs for the hosts, while Sydney Potts contributed six kills, four aces and three total blocks. Lake Cormorant finished with 29 kills and 10 aces.
Biggersville’s region finale also ended in a road defeat. Falkner won 25–14, 25–19, 25–15, leaving the Lions 4–24 overall and 4–6 in Class 1A Region 1. Falkner moved to 9–16.
Saturday brings another trip for both Central and Biggersville: Central plays at Yazoo County at noon October 3, and Biggersville visits Ingomar at 9 a.m. Corinth, with no Thursday volleyball match listed, faces Senatobia at 2 p.m. Saturday in a Class 4A playoff matchup. Its venue remains unconfirmed. All times are Central.
Before that, all four football teams play at 7 p.m. Friday, October 2. Kossuth hosts unbeaten Booneville, Central travels to Belmont and Corinth welcomes South Pontotoc in region openers. Biggersville hosts Baldwyn in a non-region game.
