Central Girls Match Winner’s 37 Points, Finish Second at South Pontotoc

Five Alcorn Central girls finished among the first 10 Saturday at the South Pontotoc Invitational. Their 37 points matched the Tupelo Spartans for the lowest total in the 1A–4A varsity 5K, but the official standings placed Central second. Four Golden Bears crossed from seventh through 10th in just 21 seconds.

Autry Wilbanks led Central in third at 20:09.68. Maggie Jones took seventh in 22:35.71, followed by Harper Moore in eighth (22:42.30), Jackie Nunley in ninth (22:51.43) and Haddy Moore in 10th (22:56.35). Tupelo Spartans runners finished second, fourth and fifth, then 11th and 15th; Central’s cluster of four inside the top 10 brought the teams level on points. South Pontotoc was third with 93. Tupelo Christian’s Alexia Fleming won the individual race in 19:33.82.

Parker Price gave Central another runner-up finish in the boys’ 1A–4A race, clocking 17:44.84. Tupelo Spartans runner Jack Johnsey won in 16:50.08; Price was 4.49 seconds ahead of North Pontotoc’s third-place Logan Wilder. Price also finished second at the Saltillo Invitational a week earlier.

Saul Morales placed 15th for Central in 19:20.77, with Chadwick Potter 16th (19:24.01), Logan Mcpheters 27th (20:06.70) and Eli Kennamore 45th (21:33.17). Their 105 points put the Golden Bears fourth, five behind third-place Mooreville. Andrew Strickland was Central’s sixth finisher, 61st in 22:41.57.

Corinth’s school calendar listed a Saturday volleyball tournament at Hickory Flat, but its current MaxPreps schedule has no opponent or score for Sept. 26. That result remains unreported; no other Saturday varsity result was verified across the four schools.
