Central Gets Another Shot at Kossuth’s 14-Match Streak

Alcorn Central gets five days to turn a three-set loss into a different answer. The Lady Bears host Kossuth at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, with the Aggies bringing a 14-match volleyball winning streak and an unbeaten district record to Glen.

Kossuth won Thursday’s meeting 25–12, 25–12, 25–23. Central’s much closer third set gives the rematch a concrete question: can the Lady Bears sustain that level from the start? The Aggies enter 22–4 overall and 4–0 in Class 3A Region 1; Central is 9–16 and 2–3. Tuesday is the next scheduled varsity match for both.

Biggersville opens the week first, hosting Falkner at 6:30 p.m. Monday, September 21. The Lady Lions are 2–20 overall but 2–2 in district play, making the conference matchup a chance to move above .500 in the standings. Corinth follows at home Tuesday, September 22, against North Pontotoc at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Warriors, 4–15 and 1–4, earned their first district win Thursday by rallying past South Pontotoc in four sets.

Another county pairing anchors Friday’s football schedule: Biggersville hosts Alcorn Central September 25 at 7 p.m. Central enters 2–2 after shutting out Walnut 6–0; Biggersville is 1–3. Kossuth, also 2–2, travels to North Pontotoc that night for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Corinth has a bye this week and next hosts South Pontotoc October 2 at 7 p.m.

The next cross-country start for Corinth, Biggersville and Kossuth’s boys and girls is Thursday, September 24, at the Topper Trails High School Classic. Blue Mountain Christian University’s trails, across from its baseball and softball complex, host the varsity girls’ 5K at 4:15 p.m. and boys’ 5K at 5 p.m. Alcorn Central’s boys and girls next visit the South Pontotoc Invitational Saturday, September 26, with the 1A–4A girls racing at 8 a.m. and boys at 8:45 a.m.

Golf begins earlier in the week. Corinth’s calendar lists a Monday, September 21, trip to Booneville at 1 p.m.; Central lists nine holes at Shiloh Monday without a tee time. Kossuth next visits Shiloh Tuesday, September 22, at 3 p.m.
