Price, Lopez Run Second at Saltillo; Central Boys Take Third

Parker Price and Silvestre Lopez gave Alcorn County two runner-up finishes at the Saltillo Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 19, with Price leading Alcorn Central to third in the boys’ 1A–4A team standings and Lopez setting the pace for Corinth in the 5A–7A race.

Price covered the 5-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 36.1 seconds, finishing behind French Camp Academy’s Matthew Simmons, who won in 17:02.7. Central placed all five of its scoring runners among the top 35 and finished with 112 points. Myrtle won the 17-team division with 92, edging French Camp by a single point in Pirate Timing’s official results.

Saul Morales followed Price in 15th at 19:21.5, and Chadwick Potter finished 26th in 19:54.2. David Romero, 34th in 20:50.3, and Eli Kennamore, 35th in 20:53.1, completed Central’s scoring five. Their finishes put the Golden Bears 23 points ahead of fourth-place East Webster.

In the 5A–7A boys’ race, Lopez ran 16:19.1, 14.7 seconds behind winner Perry Hearst of Germantown. Sebastin del Villar added a 15th-place finish in 17:36.5 for Corinth, which took seventh with 193 points. Jose Arguello finished 51st in 19:13.7, Declan Murphree was 59th in 19:34.3 and Roberto Hernandez placed 68th in 19:48.8 to round out the Warriors’ scoring group.

Central also had two top-10 finishers in the 1A–4A girls’ race. Autry Wilbanks took seventh in 21:17.4, with Jackie Nunley 10th in 23:10.3. Maggie Jones placed 17th in 24:05.9 and Harper Moore finished 24th in 24:57.5. With four finishers, Central did not receive a team score.

Emma Ganus led Corinth’s girls in the 5A–7A division, placing 65th in 24:38.4, two spots ahead of Maya Gomez’s 24:49.0. Maylynn Estrada finished 121st in 30:03.8 and Cora Murphree was 127th in 31:02.7. Corinth likewise had four finishers and no team score.

Volleyball brings the next local matchups: Biggersville hosts Falkner Monday, Sept. 21, at 6:30 p.m. Central Time. On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Kossuth visits Alcorn Central at 6:30 p.m., carrying a 14-match winning streak after Thursday’s sweep of the Golden Bears. Corinth hosts North Pontotoc at the same time.

No additional Sept. 19 varsity results were verified for the four schools. Golf reporting and some school schedules remain incomplete; missing results do not establish that an event was not played.
