Kossuth Sweeps Central for 14th Straight Win; Corinth Rallies for District Breakthrough
Kossuth gave up just 24 points across the first two sets, then held off Alcorn Central in a tighter third to keep its volleyball winning streak intact Thursday. The Aggies’ 25–12, 25–12, 25–23 home sweep on September 17 made it 14 consecutive victories and pushed their Class 3A Region 1 record to 4–0.
Dallyn Haupt supplied 14 kills and eight digs, while Dinah Lancaster added 11 kills, seven digs and a .333 hitting percentage. Ava Hopkins distributed 37 assists and served four of Kossuth’s 10 aces in the posted match statistics.
The production extended beyond the leading hitters. Chloe Caldwell finished with eight kills, eight digs and two aces; Willow Hatcher contributed seven kills, two aces and two block assists. Kossuth totaled 44 kills and improved to 22–4 overall. Central fell to 9–16 after making the final set a two-point contest.
The teams will meet again Tuesday, September 22, at Alcorn Central at 6:30 p.m. Central Time. Kossuth has swept each of its four district matches, but the Lady Bears will get their next opportunity on their own court.
Corinth took a different route to a district victory Thursday, recovering from a 25–23 opening-set loss to beat South Pontotoc 3–1. The Warriors answered with sets of 25–19, 25–23 and 25–15, winning the last by 10 points to complete the four-set comeback.
The win lifted Corinth to 4–15 overall and 1–4 in district play, ending its search for a first conference victory this season. The Warriors host North Pontotoc on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Biggersville’s next listed match is Monday, September 21, at home against Falkner at 6:30 p.m.; both times are Central.
Results note: Biggersville’s scheduled Thursday match at Pine Grove still had no reported score, and no result was verified for Central’s scheduled nine-hole golf event at Hillandale. Neither gap establishes that the event was unplayed. Individual volleyball statistics were unavailable for Central and Corinth; no other September 17 varsity results were verified.
