Alcorn County picks up trio of wins to kick of 2022 football season
Several big performances on Friday night led to a trio of wins for Alcorn County teams to kick of the 2022 football season.
Biggersville, Corinth and Kossuth all came away with wins while Alcorn Central fell in opening game action.
Biggersville got the lone win at home, taking out West Lowndes 40-12. Corinth defeated Saltillo 28-2 on the road and Kossuth got a win over a top 5 2A team in Baldwyn 20-6. Alcorn Central fell to JZ George 12-0.
Top Performers
Kossuth quarterback Jack Johnson scored a trio of touchdowns at the goal line, one each in the first, second and third quarter. Running back Brady Kelly ate up yards all night for the Aggies, going over 100 rushing yards to start the season.
Biggersville put up over 400 yard of offense with Jathan Hatch leading with 9 rushes for 230 yards and a TD. Quarterback Drew Rowsey was 5-7 for 146 yards and 3 TD’s. Tre Gunn had over 100 all purpose with 3 interceptions and a pair of touchdowns. Dylan Rowsey caught a pair of touchdowns.
Corinth quarterback Brawner Creegan had three touchdown passes to Broderick Alexander with each going over 200 yards of offense on the night.
Looking ahead
The matchup circled for next week is Kossuth hosting Corinth in the Alcorn County Sports game of the week.
Alcorn Central will host Thrasher as they look to get in the win column.
Biggersville is off this week but are looking for a game.
