Kossuth Sweeps to Win No. 19; Central Lets Two-Set Lead Slip Away

Six sets, two conference wins, no need for a fourth. Kossuth followed Tuesday’s sweep of Booneville with another straight-sets victory Thursday, beating Belmont 25–16, 25–12, 25–22 to move within one win of 20 for the season.

The Aggies improved to 19–4 with the September 10 home victory, while Belmont fell to 6–16. After losing the opening two sets by a combined 22 points, the Cardinals made the third their closest. Kossuth still finished the 3–0 sweep, giving it six set wins in two league matches since Tuesday.

Booneville, meanwhile, found a very different ending in Glen. Alcorn Central built a two-set lead with 25–18 and 25–12 wins, putting the Lady Bears one set from evening their season record. The Blue Devils answered with three straight set victories to take the match 3–2.

Booneville stayed alive with a 25–19 third set, forced the deciding set by winning the fourth 25–22, then closed out the comeback 15–9. The five-set result left Central 8–10 and lifted Booneville to 17–7. For the Lady Bears, a match that began with two comfortable set wins ended with a conference loss at home.

Biggersville also fell at home, dropping a 25–13, 25–19, 25–17 decision to Itawamba Agricultural. The Lions were closest in the second set but could not extend the nonconference match. Biggersville moved to 2–18 after Tuesday’s win over Jumpertown; Itawamba improved to 9–7.
