Bears roll over Rebels with most points scored in over 30 years

The Thrasher Rebels won the coin toss, but everything after that was all in favor of the Golden Bears.

Thrasher would kickoff to begin the game. On the first play from scrimmage Charlie Staley would take it to the house for a 35 yard touchdown run. Reed Johnson would connect with Keagan Hicks for the two point conversion. The Bears would lead 8-0.

After a defensive stand the Golden Bears would get the ball back and with 7:23 remaining in the first quarter, Charlie Staley would score his second touchdown of the night on a 14 yard run. Reed Johnson connected with Alex Moore for the two point conversion. The Bears would lead 16-0.

The Bears defense would force a fumble on the Rebels next drive. The Bears couldn’t capitalize on the turnover and would turn the ball over on downs. With 41 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Charlie Staley would score his third touchdown of the night on a 4 yard run. Reed Johnson connected with Alex Moore for the two point conversion. The Bears would lead 24-0.

Thrasher would fumble in the end zone to start the second quarter. Cole Harvell would fall on it. This would extend the Golden Bear lead to 30-0. Scotty Quinnelly would run for the two point conversion to make it 32-0 for the Bears.

With 2:19 left in the second quarter Reed Johnson connected with Keagan Hicks for a 4 yard touchdown pass. Colt Fields would run for the two point conversion. The Bears would lead 40-0. That took us to the half with the Bears leading 40-0.

Both head coaches agreed to shorten the second half to 10 minute quarters and a running clock at that point. With 2:02 remaining in the third quarter Riley Lambert would score his first varsity touchdown on a 6 yard run. Talen Kemp would score the two point conversion on a quarterback keeper to make the score 48-0.

With 5:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, Clay Langston would score on a 33 yard punt return making the score 54-0. Talen Kemp’s pass on the two point conversion sailed out of the end zone.

For the Bears, this is the most points scored in a game since September 18, 1987. Interesting enough the opponent was Thrasher and the final score was also 54-0. This is the first time since 2017 against New Site that the Golden Bears have pitched a shutout. Next week the Golden Bears travel to Falkner to take on the Eagles. The Bears will look to be 3-0 for the first time since 1995.
