Kossuth Makes It 19 Straight; Central Serves Up Playoff Sweep

Kossuth allowed just four points in each set Saturday, sweeping Edwards 25–4, 25–4, 25–4 to extend its volleyball winning streak to 19 matches and move on in the Class 3A playoffs.

The Lady Aggies improved to 27–4 with the 3–0 victory. Their run of consecutive wins stretches back to August 24, following a five-set loss to New Albany. Next comes Nettleton on Tuesday, October 6, at Kossuth.

Alcorn Central found its own route to a straight-set playoff win: 24 service aces. Lola Hollis delivered eight, and Hadley Butler and Audrey Farr added five apiece as the Lady Bears defeated Yazoo County 25–14, 25–19, 25–6 in Yazoo City.

Butler also led Central with eight kills. Willow Henry and Haizley Barber supplied five each, while Hollis finished with 10 assists. The match box score credits the Lady Bears with 20 kills and 31 digs. Central, now 11–19, advances in Class 3A to a Tuesday trip to Winona.

Corinth made it three local playoff sweeps, beating Senatobia 3–0 in Class 4A. The Lady Warriors improved to 6–16 and are scheduled to face Mooreville on October 6. Individual statistics and set scores for Saturday’s win were not reported.

Biggersville’s Class 1A match went the other way. Ingomar won 3–0, taking the sets 25–14, 25–13, 25–10. The Lady Lions’ record stands at 4–25; Ingomar improved to 22–7.

On the cross-country course, Corinth junior Silvestre Lopez covered 5,000 meters in 16:39.96 at the Gatorade XC Classic at Oakville Indian Mounds Park in Moulton, Alabama. He placed 59th among 227 finishers in the boys’ gold division, as recorded in the official timed results.
