Kossuth Breaks Through With 17-Point Third Quarter; Corinth Holds Off Houston

Kossuth needed one quarter to turn a one-point lead into its first victory of the season.

The Aggies scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter Friday, September 11, pulling away from Tishomingo County for a 31–13 home win. Ahead 14–13 at halftime, the Aggies extended their lead on Braxton Brown’s 11-yard touchdown run with 8:43 remaining in the third quarter. Kossuth shut out the Braves over the final two quarters and improved to 1–2. Tishomingo County slipped to 2–1.

Corinth found its separation in the third quarter, too. Keeping it proved more difficult.

The Warriors took a 14–13 halftime advantage at Houston and stretched it to 24–13 with 10 points in the third. Houston answered with eight in the fourth, but Corinth finished with a 24–21 road victory and a 2–1 record. The Hilltoppers fell to 1–2. For Corinth, the scoreless third quarter on defense supplied the cushion that survived Houston’s late push.

The county’s other two road teams came home without a point.

Alcorn Central lost 42–0 at North Pontotoc, dropping the Golden Bears to 1–2 while the Vikings improved to 2–1. Individual statistics and a complete scoring breakdown were unavailable in the posted report.
