Kossuth gets key 3A win over rival Belmont
The Kossuth Lady Aggies and Belmont Lady Cardinals are no strangers to each other.
The two premier 3A teams in North Mississippi squared off again on Tuesday night in a rematch of last seasons 3A state championship with the same result.
A victory for Kossuth.
The Lady Aggies led wire to wire against Belmont and came away with a 54-48 win over their 1-3A rival behind a standout performance from Zoe Essary.
Essary finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds.
Kossuth led at the end of every quarter, taking a 14-11 lead after the first quarter and never looking back.
In a tight contest that stayed close throughout the game, the Lady Aggies kept making plays to maitain the lead on their home court. None perhaps bigger than a pair of Fath Williamson buckets in the fourth quarter to push the Kossuth lead to 49-41.
Williamson would finish with 11 points.
Kossuth moves to 11-3 on the season. They are in action next at the Alcorn County tournament.
