Mantachie Tops Central by 188 Pins; Four County Teams Open Football Playoffs

Alcorn Central’s girls opened the week with a win in Fulton. On Thursday, November 5, the defending Class I champions handed them their first reported loss. Mantachie won the two-game varsity bowling match at Plaza Lanes in Corinth, 1,405–1,217, a margin of 188 pins.

The Golden Bears had beaten Itawamba Agricultural 2,268–1,797 on Monday in a three-game match. The boys’ varsity schedule lists a loss by forfeit against Mantachie on Thursday, with no score. The next date on both Central schedules is Monday, November 9, when the Golden Bears host Biggersville at Plaza Lanes at 3:30 p.m. Central.

Before the schools meet on the lanes, both have a football playoff game on the road. Alcorn Central (5–5) travels to Greenville to face O’Bannon (8–1) in Class 3A. Biggersville (2–7) visits Okolona (5–5) in Class 1A. Both kick off Friday, November 6, at 7 p.m. Central.

The county’s other two teams open at home at the same hour. Kossuth (6–3) hosts Amanda Elzy (3–7) in Class 3A, one week after closing its region schedule with a win over Central. In Class 4A, Corinth (6–3) hosts Ripley (2–8) after going 4–0 in region play and allowing just seven points in those four games.

Individual scores were not posted for Thursday’s girls’ match, and no other November 5 varsity results were confirmed for the four schools.
