Killough’s Big Day Powers Kossuth Past Pine Grove 10-6 in Slugfest Victory
The Kossuth Varsity Aggies pounded out 15 hits and used a series of timely home runs to pull away for a 10-6 road win over Pine Grove on Saturday.
Ethan Killough led the offensive surge, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. He singled in the first and sixth innings and blasted a go-ahead homer to center field in the third that gave the Aggies a 5-4 advantage they would not surrender.
Kossuth wasted little time getting on the board in the top of the first. Killough delivered a run-scoring single to spark the rally as the Aggies jumped ahead early. Eli Null added to the momentum in the second inning, launching a solo home run to center to extend the lead.
Pine Grove answered in the bottom of the second. Cooper Cornelius connected on a solo shot to right field, and Ayden Jones followed with a three-run double to push Pine Grove in front 4-2.
The Aggies quickly countered. Killough’s home run in the third flipped the score back in Kossuth’s favor, and the offense continued to apply pressure. Kossuth added two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by another long ball that stretched the margin.
Holding a slim lead late, the Aggies created separation in the seventh inning. Kipptyn Briggs delivered an RBI single, and Trey Arthur capped the scoring with a two-run homer to right, pushing the advantage to 10-6.
On the mound, Ayden Wilbanks started for Kossuth, allowing four hits and four runs over two innings while striking out one and walking two. Will Glidewell provided steady relief, tossing four innings and giving up three hits and two runs with three strikeouts and one walk. Evan Killough worked the final inning to secure the win.
Jones took the loss for Pine Grove after surrendering seven hits and five runs, three earned, across 3.1 innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Offensively for the Aggies, Caldwell, Wilbanks, Briggs, and Null each recorded multiple hits. Killough and Evan Killough combined for six RBIs, forming a potent middle-of-the-order combination. Kossuth also turned one double play defensively.
Pine Grove was paced by Jones, who drove in four runs and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Cornelius powered the offense with two home runs in a 3-for-4 performance, scoring twice and driving in two. Wallis added two hits, and Pine Grove swiped four bases in the contest while also turning a double play.
With balanced pitching and an explosive offense highlighted by four home runs, Kossuth outlasted Pine Grove in a back-and-forth battle to secure the 10-6 victory.
