Alcorn County Softball Roundup: Mitchell Powers Kossuth in 12-0 Rout; Central, Biggersville Earn Wins

Kossuth 12, Pine Grove 0

Kossuth headlined the night with a commanding 12-0 win over Pine Grove, scoring in every inning it came to the plate.

The Aggies put up four runs in the first, exploded for six in the second, and added two more in the third to secure the run-rule victory. Kossuth finished with 12 runs on 11 hits while limiting Pine Grove to just two hits.

Caliann Mitchell led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, including two triples and a double. She drove in multiple runs and ignited both of Kossuth’s big innings. Audree Butler also collected three hits, and Hallie Kate Smith added two hits as the Aggies’ lineup stayed aggressive throughout.

Kossuth drew six walks and showed patience at the plate, while Alana Lewis added two stolen bases to keep pressure on the Panthers’ defense.

In the circle, Smith and Carsyn Rinehart combined for four scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out six. Pine Grove’s Lyndi Holloway accounted for both of her team’s hits.

Kossuth will host Ripley on Thursday.


Alcorn Central 10, Ripley 7

Alcorn Central picked up a hard-fought 10-7 victory over Ripley behind a big night from Byrd, who drove in four runs on three hits.

Byrd doubled home a run in the first, singled in two more in the third, and added another RBI single in the fifth. The Bears broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on five hits to build a cushion.

Norman went the distance in the circle, striking out 14 batters over seven innings. Despite allowing seven runs, only two were earned as Central’s defense battled through a back-and-forth contest.

The Bears collected 12 hits and swiped four bases in the win. They travel to Walnut on Thursday.


Booneville 3, Corinth 2 (8 innings)

Corinth fell in a tight extra-inning battle, 3-2, against Booneville.

Moore delivered a strong outing in the circle, throwing eight innings and striking out 12 without issuing a walk. She also tripled in the first inning to put Corinth on the board.

Booneville pushed across two runs in the eighth to take control. Corinth managed just three hits on the night in a pitchers’ duel.

The Lady Warriors travel to Vina on Saturday.


Biggersville 9, Strayhorn 5

Biggersville secured a 9-5 win over Strayhorn at home.

The Lady Lions jumped ahead early with three runs in the first inning and added two more in the third. Willis drove in two runs and finished with two hits, while Wamsley also recorded two hits.

Hastings earned the win in the circle, working six and two-thirds innings. Biggersville showed discipline at the plate with eight walks and turned two double plays defensively.

The Lady Lions head to Baldwyn on Thursday.
