Alcorn Central set to face familiar foe for 3A state title in OLA

Alcorn Central got a thrilling win in 5 sets to take the North Half final on Monday. The Lady Bears got a few days to prepare for a familiar opponent if they wish to bring championship back to Alcorn County.

Central will take on Our Lady Academy on Thursday at 10 am on Thursday at Mississippi College. The two have previously faced off against each other 4 times in the playoffs, including three times for a state championship between 2021-2023. OLA holds a 2-1 record against Alcorn Central on state title matches.

Alcorn Central has established themselves as one of the premier programs in the state, heading to play for their fourth state title in the last five season. They are led by program builder Eric Lancaster and they bring a record of 24-14 to the state title match. Mylee Davis leads the team in kills with 314 while Stella Hollis leads in assists with 471. The Golden Bear volleyball squad is known for their defense and balanced attack, and this season they have three players with over 300 digs, including Hollis, Davis and Dinah Lancaster. Senior Addison Lutz has contributed over 400 assists and over 200 digs while Branna Quinn is approaching 100 blocks at the net on the season.

For OLA, they are the all-time winningest program in Mississippi with 17 state titles. They are led by Mike Meyers, Mississippi’s all-time winningest coach and the two-time defending Miss Volleyball in 3A, Myah Favre. Favre has over 600 kills and over 600 assists on the season. Another leading player for OLA is Taylor Henley, who has over 800 assists and over 400 kills on the season.

The Lady Crescents are the #2 ranked team in the state according to MaxPreps and they hold a record of 40-4.

All of the previous titles and individual accolades for OLA should be of little concern to Alcorn Central. They are battle tested in their own right and have previously defeated the private school on the states biggest stage.

Make the trip to Clinton to cheer on the lone Alcorn County team competing for a state title. They deserve your support.
