Alcorn Central Rallies Past Kossuth to Reach State Championship Match

Kossuth — It took five grueling sets and a late surge, but Alcorn Central is once again bound for the state title stage.

The Lady Bears outlasted rival Kossuth in a thrilling North Half Final on Tuesday, pulling off a 25-20, 12-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-13 victory to punch their ticket to the championship match.

After splitting the first four sets, Alcorn Central (24-14-1) trailed 12-8 in the decisive fifth before mounting a furious comeback, closing the match on a 7-1 run. Stella Hollis was instrumental throughout, finishing with 10 kills, 16 digs, and the match-winning ace that sealed the victory. Mylee Davis had 18 kills and 17 digs to help lead the Lady Bears to victory, while Branna Quinn added 10 kills.

For Kossuth, Dallyn Haupt led with 29 kills and Brenyn Wilbanks contributed 18 digs and 49 assists.

The win sends the Bears to their fourth state championship appearance in the past five seasons, where they’ll face perennial power Our Lady Academy. Kossuth (28-5-2), meanwhile, sees another strong campaign end one step short in the North Half finals for the second straight year.
