Week 1 2025 Alcorn County High School Football Previews
Corinth vs. New Hope
Corinth kicks off the season against New Hope, a familiar opponent that has provided back-and-forth results in recent years. The Warriors claimed a close win in 2023 but dropped last year’s matchup, leaving plenty on the line in Friday’s contest.
Corinth used its preseason jamboree to rotate players and identify key contributors on both sides of the ball. The Warriors are looking to establish an early rhythm on offense while leaning on a deeper, more experienced defensive group. Health and consistency will be important as Corinth aims to set the tone for the year with a strong non-division victory.
Biggersville at West Lowndes
Biggersville heads on the road to face West Lowndes, a team the Lions have controlled in recent history with eight consecutive wins in the series. Last season’s meeting ended in a 49-28 Biggersville victory, and expectations are high once again.
The Lions flashed a productive offense during their jamboree tune-ups, powered by speed on the perimeter and a physical ground game. Defensively, Biggersville relies on its veteran secondary and aggressive pass rush to disrupt opponents early. The matchup with West Lowndes offers the Lions a chance to continue their winning streak while sharpening execution against a fast, physical opponent.
Alcorn Central vs. Tishomingo County
Alcorn Central opens at home against Tishomingo County for the third consecutive year. The Braves have claimed the last two meetings, including a 49-6 win in 2024, and the Bears will look to change the narrative this time around.
Alcorn Central showed improvement in its jamboree performance, competing with discipline and effort against Falkner. The Bears will depend on quarterback play and a steady running attack to control the tempo, while the defense must focus on tackling and avoiding costly mistakes. Facing a larger, physical Tishomingo County squad, limiting turnovers and sustaining drives will be crucial.
Baldwyn at Kossuth
Kossuth begins the year against Baldwyn with momentum after a strong showing in its preseason jamboree. The Aggies demonstrated quickness across multiple positions, with several new starters stepping into expanded roles.
The offense will look to balance its attack between a capable passing game and a versatile backfield, while the defense emphasizes pressure and quick pursuit to the football. With returning experience and promising young talent, Kossuth enters the new season aiming to build on last year’s playoff appearance and push for another winning campaign.
